Kate Hudson Relies on Probiotics, Celery Juice, and Kimchi for Gut Health

Immunity strength has been at the forefront of most people’s minds over the past year. Heightened use of vitamin C and (safe) appointments with acupuncturists and herbalists in search of the most potent immune-boosting treatments and supplements abound. But let’s not forget that one of the most important steps is maintaining proper gut health with the help of probiotics. Aside from being an excellent mood booster (90 percent of serotonin receptors are in the gut), it’s also a skin aid (acne and eczema reductant). Adding probiotics to your supplement list is an optimal health no-brainer.

Kate Hudson knows the benefits of gut health—and has been touting them for years. Now, the actress is releasing a probiotic supplement of her own from InBloom, her plant-based, vegan, GMO-free wellness brand which launched last year. The Oscar-winning, Kundalini devotee mother of three is no stranger to wellness. “It was important to me to create something attainable and affordable for people, no matter where they are on their wellness journey,” she said. “To me, a probiotic felt like the most organic next step for our line to really round it out as a fully holistic regimen. I’ve been using probiotics as part of my supplement regimen for quite some time now. I’ve learned about the importance of gut health and how an imbalance in gut microbiota can contribute to a whole host of health problems. In addition to helping tip the balance back in favor of the good bacteria in the gut, probiotics help boost our immunity, which is something almost everyone is trying to do these days.” W connected with the Los Angeles native recently to discuss in detail her newest product extension—as well as her current regimen.

Have you always been health-conscious? At what point in your life did you make an effort to be aware of your health?

I like to think that I’ve always been health-conscious, and just have learned more about what that really means as I’ve gotten older and become a mom. A mantra that I love and constantly try to live by is “What’s on your mind is just as important as what’s on your plate” from Weight Watchers. That’s why I also make internal health a priority—whether that’s finding some alone time or connecting with friends—it’s important to cultivate a positive mindset as it is such a crucial part to staying healthy and happy.

We know there is scientific evidence that probiotics help with regulating our moods. You had a baby two years ago, and it does take some time for hormones to start balancing again. Did probiotics help you in any way in terms of mood and energy?

I think probiotics helped balance my whole body during pregnancy, including my hormones, mood, and vitality—but that’s only part of the story. I also know that using probiotics is really important while you’re breastfeeding. As mothers, we pass along healthy bacteria to our babies. This starts them off on the right track and lessens the likelihood of allergies, colic, and infections. I wanted to be as healthy possible to be able to pass that along to Rani, and probiotics help with that.

Kate Covers InStyle – March 2021

Kate is on the cover of InStyle magazine March 2021! I’ve added pictures from the photoshoot to our photo gallery.

Shiny, Happy Kate Hudson
She makes it look easy, but for actress and lifestyle queen Kate Hudson, optimism is a discipline.

As an actress and a businesswoman, Kate Hudson understands the expectations that other people have about what her life and career should look like. After all, her persona is that of a bubbly, relentlessly optimistic woman who always looks as if she’s just ingested a bottle of sunshine. This afternoon, dialing in from her living room in Los Angeles, she’s on-brand in a pale pink silk and lace dress, her makeup freshly applied and her hair blown out into beachy waves. She might as well have stepped out of a KiraKira filter. Then she starts talking about her latest role, as a recovering addict named Zu, in Music, the directorial début by the wig-shrouded experimental pop singer and songwriter Sia. “‘We’re going to get weird,'” Hudson, 41, remembers Sia telling her. “‘You’re going to shave your head, walk around with a sports bra on, bloody up your face, and smash your head into a wall.’ As a creative person, I was like, ‘Yes.'”

This Fight Club visual is unlike anything we’ve seen from the daughter of Goldie Hawn — a legendary beacon of charisma and pep herself. Hudson made her name early on in her acting career as Penny Lane, the bombshell rock fan in Almost Famous. She went on to become a rom-com icon, playing misguided and bumbling but ultimately winning female protagonists in movies like Raising Helen and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, where she was the woman who tries her hardest to sabotage her relationship with Matthew McConaughey and simply can’t, because she’s just too charming.

All of her most memorable roles have had distinct flavors, but these characters share a kind of effortless magnetism and shine. They’re comforting pop-cultural figures — like Hudson, they’re indelible and easy to connect with. As she’s gotten older, Hudson has harnessed these qualities and distilled them into new ventures, creating a web of products — workout-apparel brand Fabletics, the liquor label King St. Vodka, and the plant-based-supplement company InBloom — designed to help the everywoman have fun and feel good in equal measure.

Not even a Zoom media tour can faze or annoy Hudson. “People are sometimes like, ‘Ugh, the press.’ And I’m like, ‘Huh?’ I actually like talking to people,” she says.

As a wellness-minded lifestyle guru, Hudson knows that it can be difficult to get people to take her seriously. “What they really want to know is, ‘What’s your skin-care routine? What kind of chair is that? Where’d you get it?’ They don’t really want to understand the intensity of getting involved in a character. I don’t talk about that often, because, frankly, a lot of it is really boring.”

Her friend Jesse (Kate Hudson) is a fitness freak who doesn’t tell her parents that she has a family. Bradley is a widower (Jason Sudeikis) who’s trying to raise two daughters on his own, while Miranda (Julia Roberts) is too busy with her career to worry about having children. When their respective problems start coming to a head, the Mother’s Day holiday takes on a special meaning.

Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson and Baby Rani Grace Cover of People’s Beautiful Issue!

Kate, Goldie, and Baby Rani are on the May 4, 2020 issue of People Magazine! I’ve added photos from the photoshoot to our photo gallery.

Sitting down after their photo shoot for PEOPLE’s annual Beautiful Issue in early February in L.A., Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson were feeling nostalgic.

Kate’s then-16-month old daughter Rani, with musician Danny Fujikawa, had just left to take her afternoon nap. “When your daughter has a daughter, it’s a big deal,” said Goldie, 74, noting that Kate had posed for the cover of the issue in 2008. “I mean, it really is.”

“And now with little Rani Rose,” added Kate. “I was so excited. The third generation.”

While the mother-and-daughter stars had no idea much of the country would soon be on lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak, they were already grateful for their family and unbreakable bond.

“It’s definitely an interesting time for reflecting on what is truly important,” says Kate, 41, two months later from the L.A. home she shares with Fujikawa, 33, along with her sons Ryder, 16, and Bing, 8, from previous relationships.

Goldie, 74, now isolating with her partner of 37 years, Kurt Russell, 69, says getting through the crisis has meant focusing on “meditation, nurturing, loving kindness for all in my heart and staying safe inside.”

In the cover story, Kate and Goldie talk about everything from style to parenting to sex, sharing memories and a lot of laughs along the way. “My mom gave me the floor to be able to feel confident enough to go out and feel like my life could be my own,” says Kate. “Mom was my greatest cheerleader. And it just made me think about Rani…going, ‘I hope I give her that kind of confidence,’ you know?”

For more from Goldie and Kate, pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on stands Friday.

Goldie’s 37-year relationship with Kurt Russell has also inspired Kate. “To live up to that is really the goal,” she said. “Just the fact that they’ve been able to maintain a unit for all of us, in times of turmoil, they really are the center of all of our lives.”

Says Goldie: “When you have your children and you have a man who loves your children, that’s a very tough bond.”

Kate credits her mom for giving her good advice. “Mom always said to me, ‘Don’t you ever let a man dim your light,’” she recalled. “So I’ve never defined myself through the way a man sees me, but I can define myself in the unit that we can create together. That is what Mom gave to me.”
